Since some people are only here for the fanfiction, here's a list (with links) of everything I've written.  Lost, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings 'fics are divided by fandom and are in chronological order of when I wrote them (earliest at the top).  The rest are under "Other" and are also in chronological order of when they were written.

Hey everyone!

First off, thanks for everyone's very nice comments on the fic.  I'll try to respond individually to everyone!  I've been busy working on my dissertation basically since we got back.  I'll not have much of a break at any point this summer, I don't think.  I've got something due already on Monday.  So I've pretty much been reading, hunting down articles online, ordering books, etc.  My mother in law got a borrowing card for the UW Madison library, and there's a 250 book limit!  That's amazing.  I've got about thirty already, haha.  Their Roman Britain and Anglo Saxon sections are both much better than I expected them to be.

I'm going to Jarrow today to take pictures of spolia in St Paul's church.  And then maybe...drumroll please...maybe I will make a side excursion to Bede's World.  There's a medieval fair and it's free entry.  HA.  That's why I chose today to go.  I feel bad that I love Bede and his world so much, yet I will never have actually paid the admission charge.

Hey kids, I'm back!  Chris and I had a great time in Istanbul and in Israel, plus at Stansted Airport and in London on either side of the eastern Mediterranean travels.  It's really good to be home...though I guess this is only home for five more days (yikes!).  I'll maybe do a report on the trip later.  More so I can remember (since I'm already forgetting everything we did).

Highlights of the trip:

1. Seeing my parents for the first time since January.
2. Learning some more Turkish and realising that the Turks, like the Greeks, are very friendly when you, as a tourist, put forth a little effort.
3. Seeing our friend who's living in Israel for the first time in two years.
4. Seeing 2000 year old Roman marching camps at Masada that haven't been at all restored and are just sitting in the landscape plain as day.
5. Driving through checkpoints in the West Bank.
6. Passing Bush's convoy on Highway 1 and seeing Air Force One at Ben Gurion Airport.

I haven't quite caught up on what everyone's been doing for the last two weeks.  I'm trying, and if I don't comment, it's because I have a lot to catch up on! :)

Chris and I are leaving for our Istanbul/Israel extravaganza this afternoon.  I shall see you all when I get back!

Well, I said I'd write something about it, and here it is.

Wheeee exciting.  And Santogold's album is finally out.  Speaking of music, if anyone happens to have the Submarines' or In Flight Radio's new albums, any interest in hooking me up with them?

Project:  Finish Paper has begun.  Five minutes in; 37 words.  I will keep you updated.  I hope to write 1000 words total today.


ETA (9:00):  I'm now at 1,012 words and I'm stopping for tonight.  I did not work straight through, haha.  That would be sad if I could only write 1000 pages in six hours.  I think this thing is actually going to get done on time!

I'm exhausted.  Any Star Trek TNG fans here?  You know that episode where no one can dream, so they're not really sleeping and they're all going to eventually die from it?  That's what I've felt like all week.  Only I've been dreaming, and I'm still exhausted when I wake up after 8-9 hours of sleep.

AWWWESOME:

Not really knowing anything about the archaeology of Durham City, and certainly not in the past 1000 years, I'd have to say I agree that they're probably associated with the St Nicholas cemetery.  There are graves under Market Square as well.

Sweet, I'm going to have to go down there tomorrow on my way back from the dreaded presentation and have a look.  I'm glad something's coming of that feckin' work besides a bottleneck on an already crowded section of the footpath.

Yesterday I ordered Framing the Early Middle Ages by Chris Wickham and Britannia Prima by Roger White.  I'm pretty excited.

So I have to figure out what I'm saying in my presentation tomorrow.  Hm.

ETA:  But at least I'm at 851 words on my written outline.  I guess I technically need 1350 minimum.  Most likely this won't be a problem once I'm finished with the "research context" bit (haha, even my supervisor was like, "You could have a big chunk of your dissertation on context" and I was like "OMGYAYZ MY PROFS THINK SO TOO"), but again, have to actually do it.  Well, I'm up through Magnus Maxentius' downfall.  My spell check is going crazy with all the Latin names.

And then when I have enough I can figure out which bits I want to say in the presentation tomorrow.  My powerpoint is going to be lame, haha.  I don't get why I have to have a powerpoint.  So people don't get bored?

ETA II:  Yesterday was the 666th day of my being a married woman.  My fascination with that number is a holdover from being 13.

Things to do before next Monday:

1. have something to show for myself at my meeting with my professors today
2. presentation on my dissertation plans (Thursday)
3. 1500 word dissertation outline (Monday)
   
4. final RSS essay on who lived in vici (Monday)
   

All fanfiction has to be on hold till then.  Sorry!  But it will get done, because after Monday I'm done with everything except my dissertation, which isn't due until September.
